Apple Studio Display XDR Review: We're All Pros Now!
MKBHD reviews the Apple Studio Display XDR: a $3,299 miniLED monitor that technically surpasses the $6,000 Pro Display XDR it replaces.
- Studio Display XDR ($3,299 with stand) beats Pro Display XDR ($5,000 + $1,000 stand) on every spec: brightness, contrast, refresh rate.
- Panel hits 1,000 nits full-screen SDR and 2,000 nits peak HDR vs. Pro Display’s 500/1,600 nits.
- 2,000 local dimming zones vs. 576 on Pro Display XDR; blooming difference is visible in dark-room tests.
- 120 Hz adaptive sync and Thunderbolt 5 (with daisy-chain support for up to two XDRs) are new additions the Pro Display lacked.
- An A19 Pro chip with 12 GB RAM is embedded solely to power the webcam and speakers.
- MKBHD argues ‘Studio’ has replaced ‘Pro’ in Apple’s lineup and the Mac Pro is effectively discontinued in all but name.
- Mac Pro has not been updated since M2 Ultra in 2023; Mac Studio receives more frequent updates.
- Nanoexture option is $300 extra, down from $1,000 on the Pro Display XDR.
