The New Steam Hardware is AMAZING!!
Dave2D previews Valve’s three new Steam hardware products: Steam Machine, Steam Controller, and Steam Frame VR headset, all targeting early 2026 retail.
- Steam Machine GPU claims 6x Steam Deck performance; targets 4K/60fps with FSR3 in a 3.5L cube at ~28-30dB under full load.
- Steam Machine uses user-replaceable RAM (16GB) and storage, but CPU/GPU are non-upgradeable semi-custom AMD chips.
- Steam Controller uses TMR magnetic sticks (better than Hall effect) with 30-40hr battery and a magnetic RF puck that doubles as charger.
- Steam Frame VR headset weighs under one pound, runs Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and boots Steam OS on ARM with x86-to-ARM translation via FEX.
- Valve’s foveated streaming adjusts wireless bitrate in real time based on eye tracking, making streamed VR indistinguishable from wired — no developer involvement required.
- Steam Frame front module is detachable, allowing future strap, audio, or battery accessory upgrades without replacing the full headset.
- Pass-through cameras are black-and-white only; color pass-through requires a third-party add-on via a port under the nose bridge.
- All three products launch early 2026; pricing unconfirmed but Steam Machine estimated ~$700-800, Steam Frame targeting below the ~$900 Valve Index price.
