Galaxy Z TriFold First Look: The "Pocket PC" Redefined
MrMobile (Michael Fischer) gives a first look at Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold, arguing it redefines the pocket PC category despite steep compromises at $2,400.
- Galaxy Z TriFold runs Samsung DeX locally on its 10-inch inner screen — no external monitor needed, approximating a windowed PC workflow.
- At 309g and ~13mm thick when folded, it is 32% heavier than the iPhone 17 Pro Max but thinner than the Motorola Razr Ultra.
- Samsung priced it at ~$2,400, below the $3,000 Fischer expected; a Samsung VP said the company cut everything possible to hit that number.
- To reach that price, Samsung used an older processor and recycled cameras, lenses, cover display, and hinge design from the Galaxy Fold 7.
- Both panels fold inward (screen-in), protecting the soft inner display but eliminating the Huawei Mate XT’s three usable size modes: 6.4in, 7.9in, and 10.2in.
- Huawei Mate XT Ultimate was the first dual-hinge foldable, reviewed a year earlier; Samsung is the first to bring this form factor to markets outside China.
- The kickstand case is not included in the box and sold separately, which Fischer calls needless margin padding on a $2,400 device.
